Synopsis of Play: On April 20, 2010, the massive DEEPWATER HORIZON oil rich, leased by BP and owned and operated by Transocean, exploded and burned off the coast of Louisiana, killing 11 workers and triggering the largest oil spill in history. For 87 days, millions of gallons of environmentally damaging oil flowed into the Gulf of Mexico. Spill is based on over 200 hours of interviews collected in the aftermath of this spill. This theatrical event goes beyond the headlines to tell vivid stories from all sides of the country’s greatest environmental disaster. (Synopsis provided by Ensemble Studio Theatre)

First Producer: Swine Palace in LSU (Louisiana State University)

Performance History: Premiering in 2014 at the Swine Palace at LSU, Spill has been performed in theatre’s throughout the United States. Spill was the 2017 EST (Ensemble Studio Theatre)/Sloan Mainstage production. Most recently Spill has been produced and performed through L.A. Theatre Works ‘Relativity’ series, an audio theatre experience. This audio performance can be listened to for free through the L.A. Theatre Works Relativity site (https://latw.org/relativity-series).
